Algerian President Tebboune visits Russia for cooperation talks

ALGIERS- The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune has started a three-day state visit to Russia meant to strengthen relations of friendship and cooperation at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
President Abdelmadjid Tebboune started, on Tuesday, a three-day state visit to Russia with a view to enhancing relations of friendship and cooperation at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, authorities said Tuesday.
President Tebboune was seen off, upon his departure, by the Prime Minister, Mr. Aïmene Benabderrahmane, the General of the Army, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP) Saïd Chanegriha, and the Director of the Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ennadir Larbaoui.
The Algerian presidency said in a statement that President Tebboune will attend an economic forum to be held this week in the city of St. Petersburg.
Putin’s invitation had been conveyed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during his visit to Algiers in May last year with the aim of developing bilateral military, economic and humanitarian ties, and in other areas.
Talks between the two presidents will focus on strategic partnership between Algeria and Russia as well as a host of international issues, including developments in the Middle East and Sahel region, Russia’s state-run Tass news agency reported.
The discussions will also focus on energy cooperation within the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries OPEC+, the broadcaster said.
