Algerian Red Crescent Dispatches 70 Tons of Humanitarian Aid to Sahrawi People

Algiers, Algeria | September 26th, 2024 — In a significant display of solidarity, Ibtissam Hamlaoui, President of the Algerian Red Crescent (CRA), oversaw the dispatch of a large-scale humanitarian relief convoy to the Sahrawi people in the Dakhla province on Thursday. The aid, consisting of 70 tons of vital supplies, was airlifted in two planes, marking another chapter in Algeria’s ongoing commitment to supporting the Sahrawi refugees in their struggle for self-determination.

Upon her arrival at Tindouf Airport, Hamlaoui was greeted by senior Sahrawi officials, including Interior Minister Brahim Beilla and the Governor of Dakhla, both of whom expressed deep appreciation for Algeria’s steadfast support. They emphasized that this latest humanitarian gesture, spearheaded by the Algerian Red Crescent, was not only crucial in meeting immediate needs but also symbolized the strong bond of solidarity that has long existed between the Algerian and Sahrawi peoples.

The 70 tons of relief supplies include essential goods, such as food, medical supplies, and other necessities, intended to alleviate the hardships faced by the Sahrawi population living in refugee camps. These efforts come in response to the ongoing challenges that the Sahrawi people endure, particularly in Dakhla, as they continue their fight for political sovereignty and basic human rights.

This humanitarian mission further reinforces Algeria’s unwavering stance in defense of the Sahrawi cause, while also highlighting the role of the Algerian Red Crescent in providing crucial relief to vulnerable communities.
