Algerian Representative Calls for Strong Response from UN Security Council to Zionist Strikes in Damascus

ALGIERS- In the wake of Monday’s attack by the Zionist entity on the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria, Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Mr. Amar Bendjama, has urged the UN Security Council to react firmly and decisively.
Expressing deepest condolences to the Iranian people and government, Mr. Bendjama addressed the Security Council in New York on Tuesday, denouncing the Zionist attack that resulted in 13 casualties, including seven Iranian military personnel.
“This attack constitutes a blatant violation of international law, which guarantees the inviolability of diplomatic and consular premises as outlined in the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations,” stated the Ambassador.
Highlighting the seriousness of the breach of international obligations, Mr. Bendjama emphasized, “Such a serious violation of international obligations by the occupying Zionist power cannot be justified or tolerated. We must raise our voices against the dangerous implications of this provocation, which could lead to an escalation of tensions in the region, if not the world. The UN Security Council must respond firmly and decisively to this challenge to the fundamental principles of state sovereignty,” pleaded the diplomat.
The timing of the attack, occurring amidst international pressure for a ceasefire in Gaza, as demanded by UN Security Council Resolution 2728, was condemned by Mr. Bendjama as a deliberate disregard for calls for cessation of hostilities from the international community. “The purpose of such an act is evident: to respond to international pressure by intensifying the conflict, prolonging the massacre of Palestinians for internal political calculations,” he continued.
The Ambassador added that this dangerous act, capable of dragging the entire region into conflict, underscores the belief in the impunity of the occupying Zionsit power, which considers itself above international law.
