ALGIERS– The Algerian-Swiss parliamentary friendship group was set up, Monday, at the People’s National Assembly (Parliament’s Lower House), as part of the strengthening of the bilateral relations and activation of the parliamentary diplomacy between the two countries.
APN Vice-Speaker Moundir Bouden presided over the installation ceremony in the presence of the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Saadallah Kahal and the Swiss Ambassador to Algeria, Pierre- Yves Foux.
On this occasion, Mr. Bouden reviewed “the depth of the historical relations between Algeria and Switzerland”, stressing that these relations “have been characterized by quality and excellence since the war of national liberation which experienced the Switzerland’s sympathy and support, in particular by ensuring favorable conditions for the conduct of the Evian negotiations between the Algerian Provisional Government (GPRA) and the French government, and this was a decisive turning point in the history of our country”.
The APN Vice Speaker hailed “the Swiss Federal Council’s 2021-2024 strategy towards the Middle East and Africa to materialize an inclusive cooperation program in the areas of peace, security, human rights human rights, immigration, sustainable development and health”, as well as “mutual support for international candidacies at the level of international bodies and organisations”.
For his part, the Swiss ambassador praised “the depth of the historical relations between Algeria and Switzerland”, reaffirming the importance of working to “consolidate bilateral relations at all levels in the best interests of the two friendly peoples “.
