Algerian Transport Minister Leads Key Meeting on Unified Multi-Modal Transport Ticket System

Algiers, Algeria | December 30th, 2024 — In a new step towards the implementation of the unified multi-modal transport ticket system in Algiers, Transport Minister Saïd Sayoud chaired a meeting at the Ministry of Transport on Monday, December 30, 2024. The meeting brought together a range of key stakeholders, including senior officials from various transportation entities and the emerging tech company, SMART CHECKID TECHNOLOGY.

Present at the meeting were the President and CEO of the Passenger Transport Group (TRANSTEV), the Director of Transport for Algiers, the CEO of the Algiers Metro Operating Company (SEMA), the Deputy CEO of the SETRAM, the Director General of the Urban and Suburban Transport Company of Algiers (ETUSA), the CEO of the National Rail Transport Company (SNTF), the Director General of the Urban Transport Regulatory Authority (AOTUA), along with leaders from the emerging tech firm.

The meeting aimed to review the ongoing efforts and challenges associated with the deployment of the new transport system, which seeks to integrate all modes of transportation under a single, unified ticketing platform. This initiative is crucial for enhancing the efficiency and accessibility of public transport across Algiers and the surrounding areas.

During the discussions, Minister Sayoud emphasized the importance of assessing the technological solutions proposed by the startup, SMART CHECKID TECHNOLOGY, to ensure their compatibility with the latest technological advancements. He instructed the team to explore the best options for hosting the system’s infrastructure on the national cloud to meet both technical and security requirements.

Additionally, the Minister ordered the formation of a dedicated task force responsible for drafting the specifications for the system and preparing for the subsequent tendering process. The goal is to ensure that the necessary technical frameworks are in place to support the system’s full implementation by the projected timeline.
