ALGIERS- As the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) draws near, Algeria stands united in support of its national football team, emphasizing a collaborative effort between the government, football federation, and the passionate fan base. President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s commitment to sports development, particularly football, has set the stage for an ambitious campaign in the upcoming AFCON in Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11, 2023.

In a recent cabinet meeting presided over by President Tebboune, the government reaffirmed its unwavering support for the national team, led by coach Djamel Belmadi. Recognizing the importance of a successful campaign in AFCON, the government is providing all necessary resources to ensure the team’s optimal preparation and performance.

Algeria’s journey to AFCON 2023 follows a disappointing early exit in the previous edition in Cameroon. The team, often referred to as “Les Fennecs” or the Desert Warriors, is eager to redeem itself and replicate the success of the 2019 AFCON, where they clinched the title under the leadership of Coach Belmadi.

President Tebboune’s sports-centric policies include investments in world-class sports facilities, underscoring Algeria’s commitment to becoming a leader in African sports infrastructure. This commitment aligns with the broader national strategy to promote a healthy and active lifestyle among Algerians.

With just 43 days remaining until the tournament kicks off, Coach Belmadi and his squad are not only focusing on physical and tactical aspects but also banking on the unwavering support of the Algerian people. The government’s initiative to create an enabling environment includes friendly matches and closed training camps, ensuring the team’s readiness for the continental showdown.

The passion for football in Algeria extends beyond the government’s involvement, with fans gearing up to support their team wholeheartedly. Recognizing the crucial role of fan morale, President Tebboune encourages the nation to stand behind the team, echoing a sentiment reminiscent of Algeria’s historic victory in the 2019 AFCON.

In anticipation of AFCON 2023, the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) is coordinating closely with the government to address logistical challenges and create an atmosphere conducive to the team’s success. Additionally, Coach Belmadi is expected to finalize the squad during a closed training camp at the Technical Center in Sidi Moussa in late December, including a friendly match on home soil.

As Algeria prepares for the AFCON journey, the nation remains united, echoing the sentiment, “Algerians Unite: All Behind the National Team,” a hashtag launched by the Dzair Tube. The government’s proactive role, combined with the fervor of the Algerian people, sets a positive tone for the team’s quest for glory in Ivory Coast.
