Algiers, Algeria | June 6th, 2024 — In anticipation of the forthcoming Aïd Al-Adha festivities, the Algerian Public Company for Red Meat (ALVIAR) is set to initiate the sale of sacrificial sheep at fixed prices beginning Saturday, June 8, 2024, at its sales outlet in Birtouta, Algiers. This announcement was conveyed on Wednesday by the company’s General Director, Ziani Ali.

Mr. Ziani affirmed, “The sale of Aïd Al-Adha sheep will kick off at the ALVIAR warehouses in Birtouta from Saturday, June 8, and will continue until the eve of Aïd Al-Adha, with fixed prices based on size, ranging from 59,000 DA to 90,000 DA,” as reported to the Algerian Press Service (APS).

Highlighting a substantial influx of sheep at the designated sales site in Birtouta, Mr. Ziani elaborated on ongoing livestock procurement from the company’s livestock fattening sites at the primary farm in Djelfa province. Additionally, ALVIAR remains prepared to secure livestock from contracted breeders if required, ensuring stringent veterinary scrutiny before acquisition for sacrificial purposes.

Uninterrupted Livestock Provision and Veterinary Supervision

Mr. Ziani underscored that livestock provision will be replenished daily to meet demand, with preparations for the operation initiated months prior. Leveraging extensive expertise, the company is poised to adeptly manage any eventualities.

Addressing the health of the sheep offered for sale, Mr. Ziani assured that all animals are devoid of physical anomalies and diseases, as verified by veterinary certificates issued by provincial veterinary services accompanying livestock transit. These certificates serve as official documentation for interprovincial livestock transport.

Furthermore, four veterinarians have been enlisted at the Birtouta sales point to ensure continuous surveillance of the sheep until their transfer to buyers.
