Algiers, Algeria | September 11th, 2024 — Brahim Boughali, Speaker of the People’s National Assembly (APN), welcomed Kuwaiti Ambassador to Algeria, Mohammad Al-Shabou, on Tuesday for a farewell visit as the ambassador concluded his mission in the country, according to a statement from the legislative body.
The meeting highlighted the strong fraternal relations between Algeria and Kuwait, which have been built on bilateral cooperation and mutual respect. Boughali praised the positive momentum in relations between the two nations, which was significantly bolstered following Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s visit to Kuwait in 2022.
Boughali also expressed gratitude for Kuwait’s support of Algeria’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2024-2025 term. In addition, he congratulated Kuwait on its election to the UN Human Rights Council for the 2024-2026 period.
During the conversation, both sides reaffirmed the two countries’ shared positions on global justice issues, with particular emphasis on the Palestinian and Sahrawi causes. Boughali reiterated Algeria’s commitment to defending these just causes.
Focusing on parliamentary cooperation, Boughali underscored the importance of the Algeria-Kuwait Friendship Parliamentary Group, describing it as a key mechanism for enhancing cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries. He expressed optimism that the group would pave the way for a new, higher quality phase of collaboration.
In response, Ambassador Al-Shabou congratulated Algeria on the success of its recent presidential election and praised the re-election of President Tebboune for a second term. He also extended his thanks to Algerian authorities for their support and cooperation during his tenure in the country.
The meeting was attended by APN Vice President for External Relations, Moundir Bouden, and the head of the Algeria-Kuwait Friendship Parliamentary Group, Zakaria Belkhir.
