“Algeria’s candidacy for post of AU’s first vice-president serves interests of all African countries,” Saharawi FM asserts

ALGIERS– The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sahrawi Democratic Republic, Mohamed Sidati pointed out that Algeria’s candidacy for the post of first vice-president of the African Union responds to the demands of several African countries.

The Saharawi official added, in this regard, that Algeria’s candidacy “serves the interests of all African countries which consider Algeria as fully qualified to occupy this seat. He also asserted that the SADR had the right to stand for elections and hold positions within the African Union.

The SADR Minister of Foreign Affairs underlined the respect and appreciation that African countries have for his country, which has become a stabilizing factor in North Africa and constitutes an added value within the African Union. According to him, the SADR is a founding member of the African Union, and has the right to stand for elections and to hold office there, on the basis of its struggle and its conviction to make very constructive contributions to the strengthening of the union.

Algeria’s candidacy for the post of first vice-president of the African Union, thus, promises to be a crucial issue for the future of the African Union and the stability of the region. The tension between the SADR and Morocco is likely to intensify, in the coming weeks, as the elections are fast approaching. The eyes of the world will be on Africa to observe the outcome of this election which could determine the political future of the region.

Algeria is officially a candidate for the post of first vice-president of the African Union, along with Morocco as well as the Sahrawi Republic (SADR).   Algeria’s candidacy is motivated by its principled and unwavering commitments to Pan-Africanism, development as well as security in Africa. A commitment reiterated on the occasion of the 36th Summit of Heads of State held in Addis Ababa with the announcement of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s decision to allocate one billion dollars to the Algerian Agency of International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development, in order to fund development projects in African countries.

In addition to its recognized commitment to development in Africa, Algeria has also responded favorably to the requests of certain African countries to apply for the post of vice-president of the African Union.
