Algiers, Algeria | June 4th, 2024 — During a working visit to the 5th Military Region in Constantine on Tuesday, the Chief of Staff of the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP), General of the Army Saïd Chanegriha, declared that the Army would remain vigilant against those behind the drug and hallucinogen smuggling operations targeting Algeria. Chanegriha emphasized that these activities are part of broader nefarious plots against the nation.
In a videoconference with the region’s officers and staff, Chanegriha warned about the increasing trend of hallucinogen smuggling into Algeria. He highlighted that these activities pose one of the most dangerous threats to the country today, aiming to undermine the physical and psychological health of the nation’s youth, demoralize them, and push them towards addiction and crime.
Chanegriha noted the alarming rise in hallucinogen smuggling, as evidenced by recent security statistics and the seizure of significant quantities of these harmful substances by various security services. He asserted that the ANP would remain ever-vigilant against those responsible for this dangerous scourge. “This scourge is part of the nefarious plots being hatched against our country,” Chanegriha stated. He urged ANP personnel to intensify their efforts to combat drug trafficking by all available means, stressing the importance of not tolerating the drug lords and remaining vigilant against those who support or finance this menace.
Chanegriha reiterated the ANP’s commitment to addressing this threat by strengthening military and security forces along the national borders. He called on the personnel in the Fifth Military Region to double their efforts to uncover smuggling networks, neutralize these criminals, and eliminate them through the implementation of operational methods tailored to combat these illicit activities. “You must double your efforts to expose smuggling networks, neutralize these traitors to the nation, and eliminate them using all available means to spare our country from the ills of this scourge. These evils are inevitably part of the nefarious plots being hatched against our country,” Chanegriha concluded.
