Algeria’s FM Attaf Engages in Crucial Phone Call with Ali Bagheri Kani on Region Tensions

Algiers, Algeria | August 2nd, 2024 — On Thursday, Ahmed Attaf, Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, engaged in a phone conversation with Ali Bagheri Kani, the acting Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran. According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussion centered on critical regional issues, with a particular focus on the Palestinian cause and the recent escalation of violence.

The dialogue between Attaf and Bagheri Kani addressed ongoing Zionist policies and atrocities that exacerbate regional conflicts, especially in the Middle East. A key topic of discussion was the recent terrorist attack in Tehran, which led to the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas’s political bureau, a major Palestinian resistance organization.

During the conversation, the two ministers emphasized the pressing need for intensified efforts by Arab and Muslim nations within international forums and organizations. Their aim is to pressure the Zionist entity to cease its severe aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza. They also expressed concerns about the criminal entity’s attempts to broaden the war, which could potentially destabilize the region further.

The phone call highlighted a shared commitment to rallying regional and international support to address the fallout from these aggressive actions and to seek a resolution to the Palestinian cause.

In a related development, on Wednesday, Brahim Boughali, Speaker of the Algerian People’s National Assembly (APN), was warmly welcomed in Tehran by President Massoud Pezeshkian of the Islamic Republic of Iran. During his visit, Boughali extended personal greetings from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and expressed satisfaction with the current bilateral relations. He emphasized the importance of enhancing collaborative efforts and mutual exchanges between the two nations.

Boughali also reiterated Algeria’s firm stance on international issues, including the Palestinian and Sahrawi causes, and condemned the recent attack on the Palestinian leader Haniyeh. In response, President Pezeshkian praised Algeria’s support and reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to advocating for Palestinian rights, condemning the attack as a violation of international norms.

Following this, Boughali met with Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, President of the Iranian Parliament, to discuss the future of Algerian-Iranian relations. They explored opportunities for expanding parliamentary and economic cooperation and reiterated their commitment to deepening bilateral ties and addressing regional challenges collaboratively.

This series of engagements highlights the ongoing dedication of both Algeria and Iran to strengthening their strategic partnership and addressing key regional issues amidst complex international dynamics.
