The High-Level Bilateral Meeting Focuses on Strengthening Legal Frameworks, Economic Ties, and Joint Advocacy for Peace and International Law
Algiers, Algeria | April 24th, 2025 — In a diplomatic engagement that underscores Algeria’s commitment to expanding its global partnerships, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, held in-depth discussions on Thursday in Helsinki with his Finnish counterpart, Elina Valtonen. The talks were part of a broader official visit aimed at deepening Algerian-Finnish cooperation and enhancing their mutual contributions to global peace and stability.
According to a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the tête-à-tête between the two top diplomats was followed by extended talks involving senior officials from both delegations. These deliberations reflected a shared commitment to advancing the longstanding relations of friendship and collaboration between Algeria and Finland.
The two sides conducted a comprehensive review of bilateral ties, placing emphasis on the need to elevate their cooperation to broader and more dynamic horizons. In this regard, both ministers agreed on the imperative to establish robust institutional mechanisms tailored to foster sector-specific collaboration, facilitate governmental and private-sector partnerships, and enrich the legal frameworks that govern the relationship between the two nations.
The discussions placed particular focus on boosting economic engagement, with both ministers highlighting the importance of enhancing interaction and communication between the Algerian and Finnish business communities. The goal is to promote investments, innovation, and technological exchange, especially in strategic sectors such as renewable energy, education, and digital transformation.
In addition to bilateral matters, Attaf and Valtonen held a frank and forward-looking exchange on pressing regional and international issues. The evolving situations in the Middle East, the Sahel region, and the ongoing war in Ukraine were central to the conversation. Both sides expressed deep concern over the deteriorating global security environment and reiterated their respective countries’ commitment to diplomatic solutions based on multilateral cooperation.
The two ministers reaffirmed the need for sustained coordination in international fora to uphold the principles of peace, justice, and human dignity. They emphasized the necessity of strengthening international law, defending the values enshrined in the United Nations Charter, and jointly promoting global stability through constructive dialogue and diplomacy.
