ALGIERS- Ahmed Attaf, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, highlighted on Thursday during a conference in Copenhagen the global community’s failure to halt the atrocities perpetrated against the Palestinian people, emphasizing the urgent need for voices of wisdom and commitment.

Addressing the 21st Ministerial Conference of African and Nordic Countries, Attaf emphasized that “the ongoing inability of the international community to respond collectively and decisively to end the atrocities inflicted upon the Palestinian people has reignited doubts and skepticism regarding the legitimacy and effectiveness of international law as a whole.”

“At the very least, it is evident that the shared values that bind us in this forum are now facing existential threats, as we witness with sorrow, frustration, and dismay the resurgence and growing prevalence of divisive and confrontational ideologies, reminiscent of one of the darkest periods in human history that we had hoped to leave behind,” he lamented.

According to Mr. Attaf, the repercussions of this situation “have been and continue to be profoundly detrimental. Crises, tensions, and conflict zones are proliferating, accumulating, and spreading. Multilateralism is in a state of steady decline, and the UN is gradually losing credibility, with its Security Council increasingly paralyzed.”

“The unfolding situation in Gaza epitomizes all these dysfunctions, which directly challenge the fundamental principles of a rules-based system,” he observed.

“These are certainly not ordinary times! These are moments of deep crisis, profound upheaval, and unmistakable uncertainty,” he emphasized.

Attaf stressed that “in such moments, the world urgently requires voices of wisdom and commitment, such as those consistently emanating from this forum.” “Collectively, we must rise to defend what we genuinely believe in as a coalition of like-minded nations,” he emphasized.
