Algiers, Algeria | February 26th, 2025 — In a move to strengthen Algeria’s textile industry and offer high-quality locally made garments, the state-owned textile and leather conglomerate, GETEX, unveiled its latest children’s clothing collection on Tuesday evening at the Palace of Culture. The launch, strategically timed ahead of the upcoming Eid al-Fitr, features affordable and stylish designs that can now be purchased through an innovative digital installment platform—a first-of-its-kind initiative aimed at facilitating consumer access to locally manufactured products.

Under the slogan “Crafted by Our Hands, Made for Us”, the highly anticipated unveiling ceremony was attended by key government officials, including Minister of Industry Sifi Ghrieb, Minister of Trade and Market Regulation Tayeb Zitouni, and Minister of Culture and Arts Zouhir Ballalou, along with the Secretary-General of the Textile Federation affiliated with the General Union of Algerian Workers (UGTA).

A Testament to Algeria’s Commitment to Local Industry

Delivering a keynote speech at the event, Minister Ghrieb emphasized that the initiative is a powerful reflection of Algeria’s unwavering commitment to strengthening its domestic industry. He underscored the government’s vision for a self-sufficient and competitive local textile sector, where innovation and quality go hand in hand with affordability to meet the evolving demands of Algerian consumers.

“This initiative represents a successful model of synergy between national industry, research, and innovation,” said Ghrib. He highlighted that GETEX’s new clothing line is the result of collaborative efforts between the conglomerate, industrial research experts from the ‘Industrial University,’ and the Algerian startup ‘Diar Dzair.’ The partnership has ensured that design, quality, and pricing standards meet consumer expectations, bolstering confidence in Algerian-made products.

Ghrieb further stressed the necessity for GETEX to continue its market expansion efforts, enhance domestic supply chains, and increase the integration of locally sourced raw materials in its textile and leather production. These efforts, he noted, would contribute to job creation, added value, and a reduced dependency on imports—a crucial step toward economic resilience.

Echoing the Minister’s sentiments, GETEX’s President and CEO, Toufik Berkani, emphasized that the launch is an opportunity for the company to showcase its ability to meet domestic demand with high-quality and competitively priced products. He also reaffirmed the company’s determination to restore the prestige of Algerian-made textiles in both the local and regional markets.

Digital Expansion and Ramadan Discounts

In a parallel development, GETEX has officially launched its e-commerce platform in collaboration with Diar Dzair, allowing customers to purchase products online with home delivery services and flexible installment payment options. This platform aligns with the government’s digitalization drive and aims to modernize consumer purchasing behavior while expanding the reach of local textile products.

Berkani also announced that GETEX will introduce exclusive discounts during Ramadan, reinforcing the company’s social responsibility efforts to make high-quality clothing more accessible to Algerian families.

Strategic Agreements to Strengthen Market Presence

As part of its broader expansion strategy, GETEX signed three major agreements on the sidelines of the launch event:

  1. A supply agreement with the Public Tourism and Hospitality Group (HTT), ensuring that state-run hotels and resorts use GETEX textiles for their operations.
  2. A promotional partnership with the Algerian Center for Cinema Development, aimed at showcasing locally made textile products in national cinema productions.
  3. A trilateral collaboration with TAYAL (an Algerian-Turkish joint venture) and the Tunisian garment manufacturer ‘Zann’, focusing on knowledge exchange in design, marketing, and international market penetration.

With these initiatives, GETEX is positioning itself as a formidable player in Algeria’s industrial revival, aligning with the government’s broader efforts to reclaim the country’s once-thriving textile reputation.
