Algeria’s Health Minister Unveils New Framework Law to Empower Health Sector Professionals

Algiers, Algeria | November 08th, 2024 — During a parliamentary session on Thursday, Algeria’s Minister of Health, Abdelhak Saihi, announced details of the anticipated new framework law governing the nation’s healthcare sector employees. He emphasized that the forthcoming law would incorporate significant measures to support and enhance the professional pathways of health sector workers, aligning with Algeria’s commitment to quality healthcare and workforce empowerment.

Minister Saihi described the framework as a pivotal reform, specifically designed to “value and elevate the careers of healthcare professionals,” providing both recognition and concrete incentives. He explained that the new law would introduce benefits to attract and retain specialists in high-demand fields, such as radiology, anesthesiology, and obstetrics. These incentives are intended to address current staffing shortages, particularly in specialized medical fields, by offering healthcare professionals enhanced career growth opportunities and tailored support.

In response to parliamentary questions about healthcare infrastructure in underserved municipalities in the provinces of M’Sila, Mostaganem, and Tebessa, Minister Saihi reiterated the government’s commitment to expanding healthcare access across Algeria. He detailed ongoing efforts to construct new hospitals and specialized clinics, as well as the progression of multiple health projects nearing completion. These initiatives, he said, reflect Algeria’s proactive stance on healthcare development, aimed at meeting the evolving needs of its population.

According to the Health Minister, the new framework law is set to not only bolster Algeria’s healthcare system but also ensure long-term sustainability and professional satisfaction among medical practitioners.
