Algeria’s Larbaoui Chairs Government Meeting: Key Discussions on Strategic Development Plans

Algiers, Algeria | December 31st, 2024 — On Tuesday, Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui chaired a government meeting, which focused on crucial issues, including a new draft law regulating mining activities and several other significant development initiatives.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s office, the meeting concentrated on advancing the draft law to organize the mining sector, in line with directives from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune during the Cabinet meeting on November 26, 2023. The government aims to enhance the attractiveness of Algeria’s mining sector by optimizing resource utilization and fostering industrial dynamism.

In addition to discussions on mining, the meeting reviewed the progress of the Buzina Dam project in Batna, which is designed to bolster the region’s water resources. With a storage capacity of 18 million cubic meters, this vital infrastructure project underscores the government’s commitment to improving water security in Algeria.

Further, the government addressed measures to enhance the regulatory framework for managing Algeria’s border crossing points. These upgrades are part of a broader initiative to modernize the facilities and improve the quality of services provided to travelers, in accordance with President Tebboune’s instructions.

The meeting also included an update on the installation of carbon monoxide detectors throughout the country. More than 9.7 million detectors have been installed across 58 provinces, with plans for further expansion in the coming year. This initiative, in collaboration with local manufacturers and start-ups, aims to safeguard citizens’ health and raise awareness about the safe use of gas appliances.
