Algiers, Algeria | January 07th, 2024 — Mohamed Meziane underscored, on Tuesday in Oran, the pressing necessity of bolstering development-oriented media to effectively support the Algerian state’s efforts across various sectors.
In his address during the opening of a study day themed “Algerian Television: A Partner in Development and Investment, and a Platform for the Promotion of National Products,” Meziane stressed the critical role of media institutions and journalists in fortifying developmental journalism, emphasizing that “Algeria urgently requires professional media support to accompany the state’s institutional efforts across diverse sectors.”
Supporting the Developmental Revival Led by President Tebboune
Meziane further highlighted the imperative for the media to accompany the developmental momentum spearheaded by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, urging them to adopt the necessary professional tools to spotlight Algeria’s significant projects and achievements. He described this developmental support role, alongside the media’s informational, cultural, and educational responsibilities, as among the most vital contributions of Algerian television.
The Minister of Communication also referenced Algeria’s numerous infrastructure projects with regional influence extending across the Maghreb and Africa. He commended Algerian media’s contribution to national development while noting the potential value private channels could bring to this national effort.
Algerian Television: A Link Between Citizens and State Institutions
Echoing these sentiments, the Director General of the Algerian Public Television (EPTV), Mohamed Baghali, reaffirmed that EPTV is more than a media institution—it is a civic entity. He highlighted its support for economic operators, promotion of local products, and contribution to the economic dynamism championed by President Tebboune.
Baghali emphasized EPTV’s role as a bridge between citizens and state institutions, particularly through its continuous coverage of national development projects and achievements in recent years.
Media as a Strategic Partner in Investment Promotion
Omar Rekkache, Director General of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency, described the media as a strategic partner in promoting investment by serving as a conduit between investors and key stakeholders involved in investment processes. He stressed the media’s role in providing accurate and comprehensive information on investment opportunities, economic reforms, and government policies aimed at encouraging investment.
Rekkache also announced the upcoming launch of a quarterly review by the agency to spotlight ideas and practices aimed at enhancing Algeria’s investment climate. This publication will feature statistical data, analytical articles, and in-depth studies on investment challenges and opportunities while encouraging debate on reforms and strategies to improve the business environment.
Promoting National Production
Kamel Moula, President of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA), stressed the importance of media in highlighting Algeria’s ongoing development momentum and promising phase of economic growth. He called for greater visibility of national and local initiatives, showcasing completed projects and promoting Algeria’s business climate.
Moula advocated for a shift from merely presenting economic news to adopting a proactive communication approach that enhances economic development awareness among citizens. He emphasized the necessity of involving institutions in this process to promote national production, which, he affirmed, is on par with imported goods in quality.
Partnership Agreements Signed
The study day featured several key presentations, including “The Role of Algerian Public Television in Supporting National Investment and Development Dynamics,” “Public Television as a Mirror Reflecting Algeria’s Achievements,” and “Television as an Exceptional Platform for Promoting and Showcasing National Products.”
Experts also explored themes such as “The Mutual Relationship Between Economic Enterprises and Television” and “Legal and Ethical Standards in the Television Advertising Market.”
On the sidelines of the event, partnership agreements were signed between the Algerian Public Television (EPTV), the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA), the Algerian Insurance Company (SAA), Tosyali Steel Group, Berrahal Group, Tapidor, and Matik, a company specializing in the food industry.
