Algiers, Algeria | November 02nd, 2024 — On the 70th anniversary of the iconic November 1954 Revolution, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to a defensive military doctrine, underscoring that the country’s armament serves no other purpose than to safeguard its sovereignty and maintain national security. Speaking at a grand military parade commemorating the revolution, President Tebboune outlined Algeria’s steadfast policy of defense and its alignment with principles of international peace.
President Tebboune emphasized that the People’s National Army (ANP), the worthy heir of the National Liberation Army (ALN), operates on a strictly defensive doctrine. Its arsenal and strategy are explicitly oriented towards defending Algeria’s borders and protecting its sovereignty. He stated, “The doctrine of the ANP, as the worthy successor to the ALN, is defensive. Its armament is dedicated exclusively to the defense of Algeria and the safeguarding of our national sovereignty, in addition to contributing to the establishment of international peace and security.”
The president’s message underscored that Algeria’s approach respects international law and adheres to Algeria’s constitutional principles, which guide its commitment to peace within the region and beyond. He honored Algeria’s revolutionary legacy, celebrating the memory of the courageous Chouhada (martyrs) and emphasizing that the nation’s independence and resilience continue to inspire Algeria’s ongoing achievements. Reflecting on Algeria’s historical and moral duty, he remarked, “This memorable anniversary, embodying glory, dignity, and pride, reminds us that Algeria, having triumphed over colonialism, continues to achieve victories through its loyal citizens who uphold the message of our noble Chouhada.”
The event was attended by foreign dignitaries, signifying Algeria’s valued role in fostering regional security and its longstanding support for just causes worldwide. President Tebboune warmly welcomed these leaders, expressing appreciation for their presence at this symbolic occasion. He remarked, “We extend our gratitude to our esteemed guests, honoring Algeria’s place in the pursuit of regional stability and peace and its unwavering support for the rights of people to peace and development.”
Highlighting the dedication of the ANP and other security forces, the president expressed gratitude to those stationed at Algeria’s borders and tasked with protecting its skies and coastlines. He acknowledged their readiness to defend Algeria’s land and values, preserving the sacrifices made by the Chouhada and ensuring the Republic’s prosperity and security. Tebboune also emphasized the commitment to ensuring that the parade honored the deep historical and symbolic importance of the revolution’s legacy. He stated, “We have ensured that this military parade reflects the sanctity of the bond between the people and the ANP, whose members come from among the people, performing their duties with unwavering nationalism and profound patriotism.”
In a time of global economic and security challenges, President Tebboune reiterated Algeria’s ongoing progress toward building a “New Algeria.” Despite worldwide challenges, Algeria is advancing development projects that aim to unlock the nation’s potential, raise its standing, and meet the aspirations of Algerians for a life rooted in security and stability. The president called upon all Algerians to unite in their efforts, confident in the nation’s capacity to build a prosperous and resilient Algeria that upholds the values of its revolutionary heritage.
