Algeria’s Ministry of Communication Releases Special Publication on the 7th GECF Summit in Algiers

Algiers, Algeria | September 3rd, 2024 —  The Algerian Ministry of Communication has unveiled a special publication commemorating the 7th Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), which was held in Algiers from February 29 to March 2, 2024. The detailed 249-page volume, titled “The 7th Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), February 29 – March 2, 2024: Viewed by Media, Experts, and Personalities,” is a comprehensive account of the landmark event.

Published by the National Center for Documentation, Press, Images, and Information (CNDPI), the publication captures the summit’s historical significance through a rich collection of reports, features, analyses, and interviews from various media sources. It also includes numerous photographs that reflect the essence of the event.

The publication is organized into eight main sections and features President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s address delivered during the summit. It incorporates analyses from 15 international experts, 26 Algerian experts, and 10 Arab experts, as well as documenting speeches and statements from the energy ministers of GECF member states and the Forum’s Secretary-General.

Mohamed Laagab, the Minister of Communication, highlighted the publication’s role in documenting “a significant event hosted in our country.” Laagab emphasized that President Tebboune’s efforts to ensure the summit’s success underscored Algeria’s achievements on both national and international fronts. He noted that the summit was a pivotal moment in the history of energy, culminating in a broad consensus on a future strategy for the industrialization, development, and commercialization of gas.

Laagab further noted that the summit not only showcased Algeria’s diplomatic prowess but also strengthened its credibility and position in the global energy sector. It provided a platform for aligning perspectives and unifying visions on gas market development. The 7th GECF Summit has been acknowledged as a groundbreaking event that paves the way for a new era in energy and reaffirms Algeria’s role in global energy diplomacy.

Additionally, the publication highlights the “Algiers Declaration,” signed by stakeholders as a strategic vision for the gas sector in the coming years. This declaration is viewed as a significant victory for Algerian energy diplomacy and reinforces Algeria’s central role in the GECF as a founding member.

Alongside the main publication, the Ministry has also released a supplementary volume titled “The 7th Gas Exporting Countries Forum Summit in Algeria: The Spirit of the February 24, 2024 Anniversary.” This additional publication chronicles the historical milestones of Algeria’s energy sector, coinciding with the anniversary of hydrocarbon nationalization and the restoration of national sovereignty over the energy sector. It highlights the country’s liberation from foreign dominance and exploitation.
