Algiers, Algeria | November 07th, 2024 — The Director General of Algeria’s National Police (DGSN), Ali Badaoui, is representing Algeria in the 92nd session of the General Assembly of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), being held in Glasgow, United Kingdom, from November 4 to November 7. Accompanied by senior national security officials, Badaoui’s participation in this high-level event underscores Algeria’s commitment to international police cooperation and its proactive role in combating organized crime.
Throughout the assembly, sessions included intensive debates and exchanges on the evolving nature of global security threats. Leading security experts discussed the future dimensions of international policing within Interpol’s framework, including strategies to counteract the escalation of organized crime and adapt to emerging criminal methodologies. This year’s discussions focus on the need for agile and collaborative responses, as global criminal networks grow more sophisticated, requiring increased collaboration among member states to safeguard societies worldwide.
A significant highlight of this assembly was the election of Valdecy Urquiza from Brazil as the new Secretary General of Interpol. Urquiza, succeeding Jürgen Stock at the helm, brings a fresh vision to the organization’s leadership as it navigates increasingly complex security challenges.
On the sidelines of the assembly, Badaoui engaged in pivotal bilateral meetings with police chiefs from South Korea, Russia, Iran, India, Turkey, and Germany. These discussions emphasized reinforcing mechanisms for police cooperation, advancing the exchange of security expertise, and identifying concrete avenues for joint action against transnational crime. The Algerian delegation’s participation reflects Algeria’s strategic prioritization of international collaboration in the field of law enforcement.
By participating in this landmark event, Badaoui and the Algerian delegation are enhancing Algeria’s role on the international policing stage, reaffirming the country’s dedication to fortifying global security alliances and promoting effective, united approaches to address the pressing challenges of organized crime in an increasingly interconnected world.
