Algiers, Algeria | October 27th, 2024 — President Abdelmadjid Tebboune will embark on a State visit to the Sultanate of Oman, a move aimed at strengthening fraternal bonds, enhancing cooperation, and fostering consultations between the two countries. Following his visit to Egypt, President Tebboune’s trip to Oman underscores Algeria’s commitment to bolstering its diplomatic and economic ties with key Arab allies.

The Need for Unified Arab Cooperation

Algeria and Oman maintain robust relations, with numerous high-ranking Omani officials visiting Algeria in recent months. In June, the 8th session of the Algerian-Omani Joint Commission took place, chaired by Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf and his Omani counterpart Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi. The session emphasized the critical need to unify Arab ranks and pool efforts to tackle regional and international challenges, particularly the Palestinian cause.

Both ministers expressed satisfaction with the high level of political consultation and coordination between Algeria and Oman on key regional and international issues. They voiced hopes to deepen these consultations within regional and international organizations to advance their common interests and those of the wider Arab and Muslim community.

Algeria’s Leadership and Oman’s Steadfast Support

The privileged level of bilateral relations has been fostered through the guidance of President Tebboune and Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, promoting cooperation in various domains to the benefit of both nations. Oman has acknowledged Algeria’s leadership role under President Tebboune in promoting peace and stability regionally and globally, while Algeria praised Oman’s longstanding support for just Arab and international causes.

The joint communiqué highlighted the historical depth of Algeria-Oman relations, rooted in sociocultural bonds and mutual aspirations. The Joint Commission served as a platform for reaffirming their commitment to expanding ties across economic, commercial, industrial, and tourism sectors, among others.

Exploring Investment Opportunities

Both countries commended the productive meetings that brought together business leaders from the public and private sectors of Algeria and Oman on the sidelines of the Joint Commission session. Discussions centered around promising investment opportunities in energy, renewables, petrochemicals, industrial production, pharmaceuticals, transportation, construction materials, public works, agriculture, tourism, agribusiness, and artisanal industries.

In this context, Algeria’s Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, recently hosted the CEO of Oman’s Abraj Energy Services along with a business delegation. The discussions explored cooperation avenues, with Sonatrach and Abraj Energy Services already engaging in joint projects, including a memorandum signed in April 2024 for exploring collaborative ventures in hydrocarbon exploration, development, and maintenance.

Both sides also examined prospects for cooperative projects in petrochemicals, crude oil marketing, LNG, and new renewable energies such as hydrogen. This visit is expected to further elevate the level of collaboration between Algeria and Oman, reaffirming their commitment to mutually beneficial partnerships. President Tebboune’s State visit to Oman is a testament to this commitment, aiming to build on existing foundations and drive forward new initiatives.
