Algeria’s Presidential Elections: Commencement of Signature Form Withdrawal After Electoral Body Convocation

ALGIERS, ALGERIA | May 26, 2024 — Mohamed Charfi, the President of the National Independent Electoral Authority (ANIE), made a significant announcement on Sunday afternoon in Guelma, indicating that arrangements have been finalized to facilitate the withdrawal of signature subscription forms by presidential candidates. This process will commence promptly on the day following the convocation of the electoral body.
Charfi underscored the meticulous preparations undertaken to ensure the seamless execution of the legalization process for signature subscription forms. He assured that this operation would be executed with the mobilization of an ample number of notaries and bailiffs, guaranteeing its completion within the legally stipulated timeframe.
Reaffirming the commitment to adhere to the provisions outlined in the 2021 organic law on electoral regulations, Charfi emphasized Algeria’s adeptness in overseeing all facets of the electoral process. He asserted that Algeria maintains a high level of proficiency, thereby preempting any contestations regarding the integrity of elections, both domestically and abroad.
Moreover, Charfi recalled the decision to incorporate a contingent of newly eligible young voters, aged 18 years and above, who are registered for the first time on electoral lists, into the ranks of polling station staff and headquarters during the forthcoming election. He emphasized that this initiative not only facilitates the engagement of this significant demographic in political affairs but also underscores the commitment to fostering their participation in the democratic process.
