Algiers, Algeria | August 21st, 2024 — In the lead-up to the highly anticipated September 7 elections, the three presidential candidates and their supporters have kicked off their campaigns with fervor. This first week of rallies and grassroots engagements marked an intense effort to win over voters across Algeria. Candidates have presented their visions for the future while emphasizing the necessity of strong voter participation on election day.

Tebboune’s Realistic Promises

In Constantine last Sunday, independent candidate Abdelmadjid Tebboune made it clear: “I am not selling dreams.” Known for his pragmatism, Tebboune is focusing his campaign on his record and future commitments, having already fulfilled many of the 54 promises he made during his 2019 election. His campaign rallies this week are expected to emphasize his pledge to continue implementing these programs if re-elected, drawing attention to his achievements in economic and social sectors. With backing from various party leaders, Tebboune is being positioned as the steady hand needed to guide Algeria through the next five years.

Challengers’ Socio-Economic Appeal

Meanwhile, Tebboune’s challengers, Youcef Aouichiche and Abdelaâli Hassani Cherif, have been promoting their own socio-economic promises to draw voters away from the incumbent. Acknowledging the uphill battle they face, both candidates have focused on articulating their distinct visions for the future of Algeria. Their teams have been closely monitoring voter responses to ensure their messages resonate, reflecting the competitive nature of this election.

Clear Visions of the Future

Both challengers are presenting detailed programs to demonstrate that they are offering real, actionable solutions to Algeria’s challenges. As voters prepare to make their choice, the question becomes: which candidate’s vision best aligns with the country’s needs and aspirations?

Tebboune’s Key Commitments

Tebboune’s second-term pledges, unveiled in Constantine, are ambitious but grounded in realism. They include constructing two million housing units, doubling salaries, completing national digitization by 2025, reorganizing Algeria’s administrative divisions, and achieving a GDP target of $400 billion. His campaign strategy for the second week will build on the momentum of these commitments, seeking to secure broader voter support.

As the campaign progresses, all candidates are working tirelessly to persuade the electorate of their plans, setting the stage for what promises to be a decisive election.
