Algiers, Algeria | August 19th, 2024 — On the third day of the presidential campaign, Youcef Aouchiche, the candidate of the Socialist Forces Front (FFS), visited Miliana in the Aïn Defla province to conduct local outreach activities. The FFS, under the leadership of Aouchiche, aims for change from the ground up. In his address, Aouchiche emphasized the significance of the upcoming presidential election, given the current context and circumstances in which it is being held. He reiterated that his candidacy seeks to “restore hope to citizens, rebuild trust between the people and institutions, and promote new, constructive ideas.”
Aouchiche highlighted that “for over 60 years, Algerians have lost faith in their institutions and political parties,” and his candidacy aims to restore hope, particularly among the youth. He urged Algerians to support his program, which promises substantial changes, including raising the national minimum wage to 40,000 DA, eliminating income tax for salaries under 50,000 DA, capping food prices, and bolstering national security by giving power back to the people. A key aspect of his platform is “social justice,” a principle deeply rooted in the November 1, 1954 Declaration. He aims to achieve this through equitable wealth distribution, solidarity, and protection for the disadvantaged, unemployed, and underprivileged populations.
Aouchiche also called for high voter turnout in the presidential election, stating that strong participation would strengthen the people’s will and restore power to the people as the ultimate source of authority. He stressed that the youth must take up the torch and learn the value of sacrifice for their country.
On the economic front, the FFS candidate pledged to restructure the national tax system to increase ordinary taxation revenues to 7,500 billion dinars within the next five years. He also committed to directing a portion of oil taxation toward the development of several key sectors while emphasizing the need to invest in human resources. Aouchiche lamented the existence of non-productive sectors that are draining public finances and underscored his party’s aspiration to build legitimate institutions serving the people.
Like other candidates, including Abdelaali Hassani of the Movement of Society for Peace (MSP) and independent candidates with significant backing, Aouchiche is diving headlong into the electoral campaign. His focus on massive voter participation resonates with many. Accompanied by his supporters and party members, Aouchiche, who positions himself as the candidate for change, youth, and marginalized groups, engaged with party sympathizers and onlookers, centering his discussions on the key measures within his presidential program.
FFS’s campaign strategy prioritizes local outreach, aiming to cover at least 30 of the country’s 58 wilayas. At a recent rally in Bordj Bou Arréridj, where Aouchiche held his first campaign meeting, he declared, “We want to create an electoral Hirak that serves Algeria.”
