Algeria’s Presidential Elections: Constitutional Court Receives Presidential Candidacy Files for Review

Algiers, Algeria | July 25th, 2024 — On Thursday, Mohamed Charfi, President of the Independent National Authority for Elections (ANIE), supervised the transfer of presidential candidacy files for the upcoming September 7 election to the Constitutional Court in Algiers. In a statement to the press, Charfi emphasized that the processing of these candidacy applications and individual signature forms was conducted with utmost transparency and professionalism, adhering to all legal deadlines.

Charfi detailed that ANIE had reviewed applications from 16 prospective candidates. Those with accepted applications are now preparing for the electoral campaign, while candidates whose files were rejected have been informed of their right to appeal to the Constitutional Court within the legal timeframe. He noted that this transfer of documents to the Constitutional Court marks the completion of a critical phase in the electoral process. Charfi also highlighted that organizational measures were taken to facilitate the Constitutional Court’s review of these files, with the secure transfer being ensured by various security forces and state services.
