Algeria’s Presidential Elections- FLN Secretary-General Benmbarek: “President Tebboune Has Kept His Promises”

Algiers, Algeria | August 21st, 2024 — In a rally held in Tébessa on Wednesday, Abdelkrim Benmbarek, Secretary-General of the FLN, reaffirmed the party’s full support for President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, highlighting the achievements of his first term. Speaking at the Mohamed Chebouki Cultural House, Benmbarek emphasized that Tebboune’s track record of delivering on his commitments has earned him widespread backing for re-election, with the FLN firmly behind him as he seeks a second term.

Economic and Social Achievements

Benmbarek credited Tebboune’s “enlightened leadership” for restoring Algeria’s international standing and navigating the country through a series of economic and social reforms. Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Tebboune avoided external debt, thus preserving Algeria’s political autonomy. Among the key accomplishments cited were the implementation of constitutional reforms that empowered youth, expanded unemployment allowances, and made strides in curbing inflation. Benmbarek also highlighted progress in key sectors such as mining, with the exploitation of resources like iron in Gara Djebilet and phosphate in Tébessa, along with the expansion of Algeria’s railway network and the development of domestic milk production.

Recovering Diverted Assets

Tebboune’s efforts in recovering embezzled assets, boosting non-hydrocarbon exports, and advancing financial reforms were also commended. Benmbarek praised the president’s initiatives to reduce Algeria’s dependence on oil and the informal economy, positioning the country for sustainable growth by opening up to regional and international markets. Special emphasis was placed on Tebboune’s strategies aimed at bridging development gaps in marginalized regions.

Benmbarek assured supporters that Tebboune’s program for the next five years is even more ambitious, designed to strengthen the national economy and promote inclusive development.
