Algiers, Algeria | November 13th, 2024 — Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui presided over a government meeting on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, to evaluate advancements in public service improvement and modernization, a key directive of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The meeting, detailed in an official communiqué, focused on initiatives to address citizen concerns and enhance service delivery across various sectors.

The government reviewed significant strides in combating bureaucracy and implementing digital transformation measures within critical sectors, including Interior and Local Authorities, Post and Telecommunications, Health, and Transport. These initiatives aim to simplify administrative procedures, improve efficiency, and respond effectively to citizens’ daily needs.

Tackling Water Security Challenges

In line with President Tebboune’s directives on achieving water security, the meeting assessed progress on transformative water infrastructure projects. Discussions highlighted the development of five mega seawater desalination plants across Tipaza, Boumerdès, Oran, Béjaïa, and El Tarf. Additionally, the government reviewed the El Guetrani water transfer project, which will channel groundwater to Béchar, Abadla, and Kenadsa to alleviate water stress in these regions.

Enhancing Public Spaces with Artistic Expression

The government also examined a proposed presidential decree on public art installations. This decree seeks to ensure that artistic works, including commemorative monuments and murals, reflect Algeria’s historical, cultural, and social heritage while adhering to technical and aesthetic standards.

Strengthening Disaster Risk Management

A draft executive decree addressing disaster risk intervention plans was deliberated. The decree outlines the organization and coordination of emergency responses to industrial risks and disasters, emphasizing prevention and sustainable development principles. This initiative aligns with the implementation of Law No. 24-04, enacted in February 2024, focused on reducing disaster risks.

A Commitment to Progress

Prime Minister Larbaoui emphasized that these efforts reaffirm the government’s unwavering commitment to modernizing public services, addressing critical infrastructure challenges, and fostering a citizen-focused approach to governance. These initiatives collectively signal a transformative vision for a resilient, efficient, and forward-thinking Algeria.
