Algiers, Algeria | May 28, 2024 — The Algerian state-owned energy company, Sonatrach, announced the successful delivery of its first cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Croatia, marking a significant milestone in its strategy to diversify gas exports. This announcement was made in a statement released on Tuesday.
According to the statement, “As part of its strategy to diversify its gas exports, Sonatrach delivered its first cargo of LNG to Croatia at the floating regasification terminal of KRK on May 22, 2024.”
This shipment was transported aboard the Sonatrach-owned LNG tanker OUGARTA. The cargo, originating from the GL3Z liquefaction complex in Betihoua, Algeria, signifies the culmination of close collaboration with Croatian stakeholders since the KRK terminal’s commissioning in 2021.
The statement elaborated that a portion of this regasified gas will be transported to Hungary through the Croatian gas network. “This cargo, loaded from the GL3Z liquefaction complex in Betihoua (Algeria) and delivered on the OUGARTA tanker, is the result of close collaboration with stakeholders in Croatia since the terminal’s commissioning in 2021. Part of the regasified gas will be transported to Hungary via the Croatian gas network, enabling Sonatrach to supply these two countries with natural gas for the first time. Sonatrach aims to further increase its exports to this region, thus reinforcing its central role in Europe’s energy security,” the statement concluded.
This move underscores Sonatrach’s commitment to expanding its footprint in the European energy market and bolstering its contributions to regional energy security.
