At the inaugural regional media conference in Oran, Communication Minister Mohamed Meziane urges journalists to form a united front to counter external pressures and uphold Algeria’s sovereignty.
Algiers, Algeria | April 17th, 2025 — In a decisive address at the first regional conference for journalists and media professionals held in Oran, Algeria’s Minister of Communication, Mohamed Meziane, emphasized the critical need for a unified media front to defend the nation’s image against external pressures. The conference, attended by over 500 participants from the western and southwestern regions, marked a significant step towards fostering collaboration among media entities.
Minister Meziane highlighted the importance of solidarity between public and private media outlets, stating that a cohesive media landscape serves as a bulwark against attempts to undermine Algeria through foreign media and social networks. He expressed confidence in the national media’s ability to uphold their responsibility in defending the country, aligning with the principles of the November 1st Declaration and adhering strictly to professional ethics.
The minister underscored the necessity of maintaining the credibility of Algerian journalism on the international stage, noting that the press has consistently supported the state’s positions and advocated for just causes. He also acknowledged President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s deep respect and appreciation for the media community.
Addressing the challenges posed by misinformation, Meziane called for continuous and specialized training to enhance journalistic performance and ensure the dissemination of reliable information. He urged media professionals to exercise diligence in verifying information and to be cautious of dubious sources, particularly on social media platforms, which he identified as potential threats to state and societal security.
