Algeria’s Unwavering Efforts to End the Genocide in Gaza

Algiers, Algeria | October 27th, 2024 — In a powerful statement made Sunday in Cairo, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria reaffirmed Algeria’s steadfast commitment to halting the ongoing atrocities against Palestinians in Gaza. Speaking alongside Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi during a joint press conference, Tebboune highlighted Algeria’s active role within the United Nations Security Council to address what he called a “genocide” inflicted upon the people of Gaza by Israeli forces.

Reaffirming Algeria’s longstanding position, President Tebboune reiterated that the ultimate resolution to the ongoing war lies in the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. “Algeria’s stance is unwavering and will remain so,” he declared. “The fundamental solution is the creation of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.” Algeria’s approach, he emphasized, is rooted in justice, human rights, and respect for the Palestinian people’s legitimate aspirations.

Support for a Libyan-Led Solution and Concerns Over Sudan

Addressing regional stability, Tebboune also spoke on Algeria’s position regarding Libya, advocating for an internal Libyan solution based on elections to restore peace and unity in the country. Algeria, he stated, firmly believes that lasting stability in Libya can only be achieved through a process driven by the Libyan people themselves.

On the crisis in Sudan, Tebboune expressed his sorrow over the violence between Sudanese factions, reiterating Algeria and Egypt’s policy of non-intervention, except when working toward reconciliation. Algeria and Egypt, he stressed, are united in their efforts to support dialogue and peace within Sudan, emphasizing that intervention is only ever directed towards fostering unity and restoring harmony among the Sudanese people.

This joint statement in Cairo further underscores the depth of Algeria and Egypt’s shared commitment to peace, regional stability, and justice for all oppressed peoples in the Arab world.
