ALGIERS-  The Speaker of the Council of the Nation, Mr. Salah Goudjil, received, on Wednesday, at the headquarters of the parliamentary institution, the Ambassador of the Syrian Arab Republic to Algeria, Namir Wahib Al-Ghanem, who paid him a farewell visit at the end of his mission in our country, said a statement from the Upper House of Parliament.

“After an exchange of best wishes between the two parties on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, Mr. Goudjil reiterated his sincere condolences to the families of the victims of the devastating earthquake which struck Syria last February”, recalling that “the Algeria, on the instructions of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, was one of the first countries to respond to the call for help”, according to the press release.

The Speaker of the Council of Nation also hailed “the momentum Syria recently gained on the Arab scene, which will be crowned, God willing, by the imminent recovery of its seat in the Arab League”.

For his part, “the Syrian ambassador thanked the Algerian authorities for the welcome and the facilities he enjoyed throughout his stay in our country, which enabled him, he said, to accomplish his mission in an atmosphere of trust and constructive cooperation”.

“He also thanked the Algerian authorities for the support for his country,” added the same source.

“The fraternal and historical ties that unite the two peoples and the two countries were at the center of the talks between the two parties, who welcomed the level of the current parliamentary relations in particular and the political relations in general which unite the two countries, in light of the directives of their presidents,” the statement pointed out.

During the meeting, the two parties reviewed issues of common interest, while stressing the importance of the Palestinian cause for the Arab-Muslim nation.

Mr. Goudjil reaffirmed the firm and principled positions of Algeria’s foreign policy in favor of the right of peoples to self-determination. He also reiterated the call made by Algeria for the crystallization of a new vision based on the principles and objectives of the Non-Aligned Movement, and making prevail the principles favoring the diplomatic settlement of conflicts and rejecting interference in the internal affairs of States.
