Algiers, Algeria | January 12th, 2025 — In a decisive move to enhance service quality, Algerie Télécom announced on Saturday that its digital payment platform, BaridiMob, is currently undergoing a comprehensive performance optimization aimed at improving user experience and ensuring operational efficiency.

In an official statement, Algerie Télécom acknowledged recent disruptions affecting certain transactions via the BaridiMob application and extended a formal apology to its customers for the inconvenience. The institution assured users that BaridiMob adheres to the highest security standards and emphasized that the majority of transactions have been successfully completed. However, some operations experienced accounting delays due to the ongoing system upgrade and will be reflected in user accounts once the process is finalized.

Reaffirming its commitment to service excellence, Algerie Télécom pledged to continue striving for superior service delivery in line with user expectations. Efforts are actively underway to fully restore the application’s functionality as soon as possible.

During a press conference led by Louai Zaidi, Director General of Algerie Télécom, the technical delays were thoroughly addressed. Zaidi clarified that the recent disturbances in fund transfers between accounts were a direct result of system updates designed to boost the platform’s operational performance. He assured customers that all transactions executed during the maintenance period would be reflected in user accounts no later than the upcoming Tuesday.

Zaidi further explained that the disruptions were limited exclusively to inter-account transfers due to database maintenance and system recalibration. Other services, such as mobile phone and internet top-ups as well as bill payments, remained fully operational and unaffected.

Highlighting the importance of the ongoing upgrade, Zaidi noted that it aligns with the platform’s growing user base and the demand for higher transaction capacities. “This enhancement process will ensure BaridiMob can handle increased traffic and transaction volumes while maintaining peak performance,” he stated. “Additional upgrades are planned for this year to introduce new digital services, simplifying access to Algerie Télécom’s offerings without the need for physical visits.”

Zaidi reassured users about the platform’s security, emphasizing that all accounting operations are securely registered and will be processed promptly once the upgrade concludes.

Supporting the platform’s expansion, Abdelnour Soltani, Director of Postal Cash Management, provided key statistical insights. He revealed that the number of BaridiMob users surged from 3.4 million at the end of 2023 to an impressive 4.725 million by the close of 2024, indicating a significant rise in the app’s adoption across Algeria. In December alone, the platform processed 3.5 million inter-account transfers, amounting to 46 billion Algerian dinars, while recording 5.5 million e-commerce transactions valued at 4 billion dinars.

“These figures highlight the necessity of continued technical improvements to support the platform’s evolving demands,” Seltani remarked. He added that the recent enhancements implemented between January 3rd and 10th would bolster the platform’s performance while maintaining the integrity and security of all financial operations.

In a separate development, the Algerian Consumer Protection Organization also commented on the recent deductions from postal accounts. Citing official sources, the organization clarified that some users had noticed unauthorized deductions from their postal accounts, which were attributed to a technical malfunction currently under resolution. It reassured customers that the deducted amounts had not been disbursed and that data corrections were being implemented gradually under the supervision of expert technicians and a dedicated crisis unit.

The organization further emphasized that all verified data from official sources indicate the situation remains fully under control, with no cause for public concern. Algerie Télécom is expected to issue an additional official statement to further reassure its clients and provide clarity on the matter.

Algerie Télécom concluded the press briefing by reaffirming its commitment to expanding the BaridiMob platform with additional features aimed at simplifying digital transactions and improving the overall customer experience. The institution underscored that the ongoing technical refinements reflect its long-term vision of enhancing Algeria’s digital financial infrastructure and ensuring the highest standards of reliability and service security for all users.
