Macron’s overt alignment with Morocco, particularly in the context of its normalization with Israel, has significantly strained Franco-Algerian relations. “By siding so openly with Morocco, France has recklessly provoked Algeria, risking serious diplomatic fractures,” Cohen asserted.
The geopolitical strategist also highlighted how France’s hostility could be interpreted as part of a broader, NATO-driven, pro-Zionist alignment. He suggested that France’s inflammatory rhetoric aims to tarnish Algeria’s image and justify aggressive policies, including the expulsion of Algerian influencers. “It seems crafted to inflame tensions rather than seek diplomatic solutions,” he added, pointing out the role of powerful Zionist lobbies in perpetuating this climate of hostility.
On the internal French political landscape, Cohen addressed the mounting instability within the Fifth Republic, particularly amid parliamentary tensions and budgetary disputes. He linked the escalating diplomatic aggression with Macron’s domestic struggles, including recent votes of confidence and widespread discontent. “The collapse of the Fifth Republic is a real possibility, with governance devolving into parliamentary horse-trading and betrayals,” he warned, though acknowledging the constitutional challenges in overhauling the system.
Cohen dismissed claims that the French economic oligarchy orchestrates this hostile campaign for market control in Algeria. Instead, he described a self-sabotaging dynamic, where ideological zeal overrides economic rationality. “Rather than expanding market influence, France’s actions risk alienating Algeria completely, as seen with Italy’s strategic pivot towards Algiers,” he argued, citing France’s broader economic miscalculations in Ukraine and climate policies.
Addressing Macron’s recent Africa strategy, Cohen delivered a scathing critique, denouncing his rhetoric as inflammatory and counterproductive. “His speeches have alienated not just Algeria but the entire Sahel region. France, once a key player in Africa, now finds itself increasingly isolated,” he observed, noting France’s diminishing military presence across the continent.
Cohen also assessed the global implications of Donald Trump’s imminent return to the White House, predicting a recalibration of U.S. foreign policy. “Trump’s priority will be to restore American supremacy, both economically and militarily. However, his capacity to strike a compromise with Russia without fully conceding NATO’s failures remains uncertain,” he analyzed, pointing to deep ideological divides within the U.S. establishment.
On the Middle East, Cohen offered a sobering outlook, citing the Zionist entity’s continued dominance despite regional tensions. He pointed to the weakening of resistance networks, particularly due to Syria’s destabilization, and speculated on Iran’s cautious diplomatic approach. “The immediate future seems to favor the Zionist entity’s position, but Trump’s policies may reignite normalization efforts, possibly pushing Saudi Arabia into formalizing ties with Tel Aviv,” Cohen predicted.
