Algiers, Algeria | April 27th, 2025 — The periodic meetings of Arab radio and television coordinators and communication engineers officially commenced on Sunday in Algiers, bringing together key representatives from Arab broadcasting organizations and international professional bodies.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Algeria’s Minister of Communication, Mohamed Meziane, alongside Suleiman Abdelrahim, Director-General of the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU), and Mohamed Karim Slimani, Director-General of the Arab Center for Information and Program Exchange, which organized the event. Also in attendance were Adel Salakdji, Director-General of Algerian Radio, and numerous prominent figures from the media sector.

Running until Wednesday, the sessions aim to strengthen cooperation among Arab broadcasters, enhance technological capabilities, and reinforce the media’s role in supporting critical causes, notably the Palestinian struggle.

The conference will feature a joint meeting of radio and television coordinators and communication engineers on Monday and Tuesday. A key highlight on Tuesday will be a meeting of the New Media Committee, accompanied by a specialized workshop addressing the pivotal role of social media networks in covering the ongoing Zionist aggression against Gaza.

In addition, Wednesday’s program will conclude with an open workshop showcasing the latest innovations in the ASBU’s Cloud platform, reflecting the organization’s commitment to digital transformation and the modernization of information exchange systems.

At the inauguration of the meetings, participants viewed a documentary chronicling major information and program exchange activities carried out during 2024 and the first quarter of 2025. Examples presented included extensive media coverage of the Zionist aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, as well as reports on major political, economic, cultural, religious, and sports events.

Remarkably, in 2024 alone, over 16,500 news items were exchanged among Arab media organizations through ASBU’s communication platforms, illustrating the growing dynamism and interconnectivity within the Arab media landscape.

This gathering in Algiers not only reaffirms the strategic role of Arab media in confronting contemporary challenges but also underscores its steadfast commitment to defending just causes and elevating professional standards across the sector.
