Algiers, Algeria | August 4th, 2024 — On Sunday, August 4, 2024, the Palestinian Embassy in Algiers organized a solidarity meeting to observe the International Day of Solidarity with Gaza and Palestinian prisoners. The event aimed to raise awareness about the severe injustices and atrocities committed by Zionist forces against Palestinians, particularly in Gaza.
Revelations on the Situation in Gaza
During the meeting, Palestinian Ambassador to Algiers, Fayez Abu Aita, provided a harrowing account of the conditions faced by Palestinians in Gaza. He reported that since the onset of Zionist aggression on October 7, 2023, nearly 10,000 Palestinians have been imprisoned under harsh conditions. These detainees endure severe abuse and torture, while the broader Gaza population faces relentless violence, including attacks on children, women, and the elderly.
Algerian Support and Diplomatic Initiatives
Ambassador Abu Aita commended Algeria’s resolute stance on the issue, highlighting the political and diplomatic efforts spearheaded by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. He praised the President’s initiatives at the United Nations, where Algeria has championed resolutions condemning and seeking to halt the Zionist occupation’s violations. These efforts, coordinated with the Palestinian Mission, aim to garner international support and draw attention to the plight of the Palestinian people.
Exposing Zionist Crimes
The ambassador underscored the need to expose the continuous crimes perpetrated by Zionist occupiers, describing these atrocities as a continuation of historical Nakbas (catastrophes) inflicted upon Palestinian women and children.
Inhumane Conditions and Torture
Youcef Abed, Secretary of the “Fatah” Movement’s Algerian branch, detailed the brutal conditions and forms of torture faced by Palestinian prisoners in Zionist detention facilities. The meeting saw the participation of key figures from the “Fatah” Movement in Algeria, representatives from Algerian civil society, and members of the revolutionary family, all united in their support for Palestinian rights.
