Algiers, Algeria | October 2nd, 2024 — The third edition of the E-Commerce and Online Services Expo (ECSEL) officially opened in Algiers on Wednesday, bringing together 130 exhibitors, including 30 startups, to present a diverse range of digital products. Running until October 5, the event serves as a crucial forum for participants to share expertise and insights in the fast-developing field of digital commerce.
Redouane Hammou, communications officer for the event, pointed out the notable increase in interest from industry players, which he said is a reflection of the growing significance of e-commerce in Algeria. According to Hammou, “the rising participation underscores the rapid expansion of e-commerce, which has now firmly established itself as a critical component of Algerian society.”
The expo provides an opportunity for a broad audience—ranging from industry professionals to general consumers—to explore cutting-edge digital applications and intelligent solutions developed by local companies, including micro-enterprises and startups. Hammou also noted that this expanding sector underscores the pivotal role of digitalization in driving Algeria’s economy, especially in transforming wholesale, retail, and associated services.
Taking place in a 6,500 m² venue, the expo includes a wide range of startups active in various industries such as logistics, technology, finance, and insurance, alongside major contributors to the electronic commerce and services ecosystem. In addition, 12 specialized workshops will be held, featuring 37 experts who will address critical topics such as the digital economy, the evolution of e-commerce in Algeria, and the technical intricacies of online commerce.
As part of its support for education and innovation, the event also features a hackathon organized in collaboration with the Algerian insurance company CAAT. This competition will engage 500 students, challenging them to devise innovative technical solutions aimed at overcoming the specific challenges faced by companies in the digital sector.
