Algiers, Algeria | June 23rd, 2024 — The Algiers Metro Company has announced a national open call for tenders for preparatory work on the Taleb Abderrahmane-Trois Horloges-Triolet stations. This tender covers the construction of ancillary works, civil engineering, and major works from Place des Martyrs to Taleb Abderrahmane station, including the tunnel and ventilation structure.
The Algiers Metro is set to expand significantly, with the El-Harrach to Houari Boumediene Airport line nearing completion. The general manager has outlined plans to extend the network to 60 km from the current 19 km. A key component of this expansion is the 1.5 km extension between Place des Martyrs and Bab El-Oued.
Bidders or their designated representatives must collect the tender documents within 30 days from the initial publication in national media and the Official Bulletin of Public Procurement (Bomop). The bids will be opened in a public session at 2 PM on the submission closing date.
Several line extension projects are progressing well, aiming to expand the metro network to 60 km in the medium term. New lines include Chevalley-Dély Ibrahim, Chéraga-Ouled Fayet, and El-Achour–Draria. Additional studies are planned for extensions in other communes of Algiers.
Key Extension Projects
– El-Harrach Centre to Houari Boumediene International Airport: A 9.5 km extension with nine new stations.
– Aïn Naâdja to Baraki: A 4 km extension featuring four new stations.
– Place des Martyrs to Bab El-Oued (3 Horloges): A 1.5 km extension.
These projects are being executed by local companies and engineers, emphasizing the reliance on Algerian expertise to reduce road traffic congestion in the capital.
Hadj Mohamed Sebaâ, Director General of the Treasury and Accounting Management of State Financial Operations at the Ministry of Finance, announced a budget of $8.6 billion USD (1157 billion DZD) allocated for the equipment and extension of the Algiers Metro.
The Algiers Metro network expansion is a strategic initiative to enhance urban mobility and alleviate traffic congestion. With substantial investment and local expertise, the future of public transportation in Algiers is poised for significant improvement.
