Algiers University unveils “Chinese Bookshelf” to foster cultural exchange

ALGIERS- The Chinese Bookshelf project was unveiled, on Sunday, at Algiers 1 University, with the aim of strengthening cultural exchange and educational cooperation between China and Algeria. The project consists of 460 books written in Arabic, French, and English, covering various aspects of China, including politics, economics, society, and culture. All the books have been generously provided by Chinese oil company Sinopec.
The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Chinese Ambassador Li Jian, Rector of Algiers 1 University Fares Mokhtari, Sinopec Africa’s Chief Representative Wei Dong, and representative of the Algerian Ministry of Energy and Mining Fatiha Relimi.
During the event, Ambassador Li Jian expressed his confidence that the donated books would serve as a window into the extensive knowledge of China and help the students attain a deeper understanding of the country. He emphasized the importance of cultural exchange and educational cooperation between China and Algeria, and the role that the Chinese Bookshelf project would play in strengthening these ties.
Rector Fares Mokhtari highlighted the bookshelf as a bridge of knowledge and culture, reinforcing the strong bilateral ties between China and Algeria. He expressed his desire for more practical collaboration with Chinese entities and universities, and the university’s commitment to promoting cultural exchange and educational cooperation.
Wei Dong expressed his hope that the books would contribute to the university’s development and students’ growth, stressing Sinopec’s commitment to its social responsibility while supporting Algeria’s sustainable and diversified economy.
