ALGIERS– In a groundbreaking announcement, the Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Ali Aoun, revealed the imminent establishment of three cutting-edge units dedicated to the production of anti-cancer drugs. This significant stride in domestic pharmaceutical manufacturing is set to have far-reaching implications for both the nation’s healthcare landscape and economic growth.

During his visit to Tizi-Ouzou on Wednesday, Minister Aoun highlighted the transformative impact that the local production of anti-cancer medications will have on Algeria’s health infrastructure. With these units poised to become operational soon, the country is poised to take significant strides towards self-sufficiency in medical supplies, reducing its dependence on costly imports.

“By initiating the production of these anti-cancer drug units, we are not only curbing our import expenses but also paving the way for a more resilient healthcare system,” Minister Aoun asserted. He further reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing healthcare challenges by extending efforts to encompass treatments for chronic illnesses, thus ensuring the comprehensive well-being of the nation’s citizens.

The establishment of these specialized pharmaceutical units represents a pivotal juncture in Algeria’s journey towards medical self-reliance. By honing the nation’s capabilities in the production of vital medications, the government aims to ensure a consistent supply of quality drugs, leading to improved patient care and health outcomes.

While on his visit, Minister Aoun also paid a visit to the Novo Nordisk Algeria Unit, an emblem of success in the manufacture of oral antidiabetic drugs. Acknowledging the unit’s achievements, he called upon its leaders to diversify their offerings to cater to the growing demand for various pharmaceutical products. “Our vision is not limited to anti-cancer drugs,” he stated, “We envisage a robust pharmaceutical industry, capable of fulfilling our healthcare needs across the board.”

Furthermore, the Minister’s visit to the production unit of the Azazga Electro-Industry Public Company underscored the importance of product diversification in bolstering the nation’s economic resilience. While the company is renowned for its production of electrical transformers, mainly serving Sonelgaz, the national energy company, Minister Aoun championed the idea of extending its portfolio to include electric generators and batteries for vehicles. This strategic move aligns with the government’s overarching vision of fostering growth across multiple sectors.

As Algeria sets its sights on becoming a pharmaceutical powerhouse, the efforts led by Minister Aoun are indicative of a nation determined to secure its medical supply chain and harness its economic potential. With the imminent production of anti-cancer drugs and the drive to expand the pharmaceutical industry’s offerings, the country is taking bold strides towards a healthier and more prosperous future.
