ALGIERS- The Speaker of the People’s National Assembly (APN), Mr. Brahim Boughali, welcomed the Ambassador of the Republic of India to Algeria, Gaurav Ahluwalia, during a meeting held in Algiers on Wednesday, as reported in a statement from the APN.
The meeting, which took place at the APN headquarters, saw Mr. Boughali and Ambassador Ahluwalia discuss the longstanding historical ties between Algeria and India, as well as their shared commitment, particularly their joint membership in the Non-Aligned Movement.
Emphasizing the parliamentary dimension, President Boughali highlighted the pivotal role of the parliament in advancing and strengthening bilateral cooperation through the exchange of visits, experiences, and the reactivation of consultation mechanisms on global affairs. He expressed his desire to establish the Algeria-India Friendship Group at the earliest opportunity.
In the economic realm, Mr. Boughali commended the significant potential inherent in both countries, underscoring the importance of harnessing these potentials to foster bilateral partnerships in technology, communication, and cutting-edge technologies. He also highlighted the numerous advantages offered by Algerian investment laws.
On the diplomatic front, the APN Speaker reiterated Algeria’s unwavering support for just causes and its peaceful approach to crisis resolution, along with its steadfast efforts in backing the Palestinian and Sahrawi causes.
Ambassador Ahluwalia acknowledged the robust state of bilateral relations between Algeria and India, noting Algeria’s regional influence due to its strategic location bridging Africa and Europe. He expressed optimism about Algeria’s influential role as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
The meeting between Speaker Boughali and Ambassador Ahluwalia underscores the mutual commitment of both countries to deepen their bilateral cooperation across various sectors and further strengthen their diplomatic ties. It reflects the shared aspirations of Algeria and India to collaborate closely on regional and global issues of common interest.
