Appointed Director of Cabinet of Presidency of Republic, Larbaoui bids farewell to Antonio Guterres

ALGIERS- The Permanent Representative of Algeria to the United Nations, Nadir Larbaoui, paid a farewell visit to the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guttéterres, at the headquarters of the international organization in New York.

Nadir Larbaoui was appointed the Director of the Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic, during the last partial cabinet reshuffle carried out by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune. In a statement to the “Al-Quds Al-Arabi” website, Nadir Larbaoui reported that during the half-hour meeting, the two parties”discussed several topical issues, including the situation in Libya, Tunisia, and Mali, as well as the issue of Western Sahara and others.

On the occasion, the UN Secretary-General congratulated Ambassador Larbaoui on his new post, wishing him every success in his new mission.

In a related context, Nadir Larbaoui met Staffan de Mistura, the Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Western Sahara, who is currently at the headquarters of the UN organization to carry out a series of consultations prior to the publication, next April, of his detailed report on his efforts to relaunch the political process between the two conflicting parties, namely; the Kingdom of Morocco and the Polisario Front.

Indeed, Staffan de Mistura held separate meetings, this Thursday, with representatives of Spain, the United States and the Polisario Front to address the situation surrounding the conflict in Western Sahara.

De Mistura met with the permanent representative of Spain to the UN, Agustín Santos Maraver, the representative of the Polisario Front in New York, Sidi Omar, and the “number two” of the American delegation, Jeffrey DeLaurentis. Ambassador Nadir Larbaoui is expected to leave New York this morning to assume his new duties at the presidential palace El Mouradia.
