ALGIERS- Arab League foreign ministers adopted a decision to readmit Syria after more than a decade of suspension on Sunday, a spokesperson for the league said.
Arab League foreign ministers adopted a decision no.8914 on resumption participation of delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic in the Council of Arab League’s meetings and all its organizations and agencies, as of May 7, 2023.
The decision was made at an Arab foreign ministers meeting at the league’s headquarters in Cairo, the spokesman for its Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Gamal Roshdy, said.
Earlier, President Tebboune affirmed that Syria is a founding member of the Arab League, and cannot be deprived of its rights.
“We have not changed with respect to Syria, and Syria has not changed for us. What we are doing is based on the fact that Syria is a founding member of the Arab League and cannot be isolated or set aside its rights” Tebboune said during a meeting with representatives of the national press.
President Tebboune pointed out that Algeria’s aid to its sisterly Syria during the earthquake was a donation from the heart that is not subject to any political considerations.
Algerian President indicated that “there is an international system that imposes itself on the weak before the strong, and we hope that will change.”
He also expressed his hope that the Arab vision will change and that the divided situation in which the Arab nation finds itself will come to an end .
He concluded that we have said it many times, especially at the Arab League meeting, that as Arabs we should be the first to believe in our vision.
