Arab Parliamentary Union Stands in Solidarity with Algeria, Rejects External Meddling in National Sovereignty

Algiers, Algeria | January 26th, 2025 —  In a decisive statement, the Arab Parliamentary Union has strongly condemned the European Parliament’s recent remarks regarding Algeria, denouncing it as a blatant interference in the country’s internal affairs and a violation of its sovereignty and judicial independence.

The Union, in its official communiqué signed by Brahim Boughali, Speaker of the People’s National Assembly of Algeria, reaffirmed that the European Parliament’s statement is an infringement upon the established norms and international conventions that call for respecting the sovereignty of nations and prohibiting any form of intervention in their domestic matters under any pretext.

The Arab Parliamentary Union emphasized its unwavering support for Algeria, its leadership, parliament, government, and people, highlighting the country’s robust constitutional institutions and an independent judiciary that ensures the protection of rights and freedoms in alignment with both legal and humanitarian standards. “Algeria’s judiciary is fully capable of upholding justice and ensuring the protection of the rights of its citizens, in accordance with national and international legal frameworks,” the statement declared.

Furthermore, the Union called on the European Parliament to cease exploiting human rights issues as a pretext for meddling in the affairs of other sovereign nations. The statement urged European authorities to respect Algeria’s judicial system and instead focus their efforts on fostering international peace and stability, rather than engaging in actions that undermine sovereign governance.

In closing, the Arab Parliamentary Union underscored the need for nations to adhere to mutual respect for sovereignty, urging that any attempts to undermine a country’s judicial independence be swiftly rejected.
