During a working visit to the 4th Military Region, the Army Chief of Staff stresses the imperative of vigilance against malicious propaganda and urges all Algerians to safeguard the nation’s unity and stability
Algiers, Algeria | April 28th, 2025 — In a decisive move to bolster Algeria’s internal resilience against emerging threats, General of the Army Saïd Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defense and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), launched a strong call for heightened security awareness and resistance to malicious propaganda during a working and inspection visit to the 4th Military Region in Ouargla.
According to a statement from the Ministry of National Defense, this visit forms part of General Chanegriha’s ongoing field inspections across Algeria’s military regions to ensure combat readiness and strategic vigilance.
The General’s visit commenced at the headquarters of the 4th Military Region, where he was received by Major General Omar Tlemçani, Commander of the Region. After a solemn welcome ceremony, General Chanegriha paid tribute to the memory of martyr Bachir Chihani, whose name the headquarters bears, by laying a wreath at the commemorative stele and reciting Al-Fatiha in honor of all Algeria’s valiant martyrs.
Addressing the region’s senior officers and, via videoconference, the personnel of the 4th Military Region at large, General Chanegriha delivered a powerful keynote emphasizing the crucial need to confront the growing use of deceitful and destructive propaganda, especially amid the unprecedented expansion of digital technologies and social media platforms.
“In an era where disinformation is weaponized to serve dubious political agendas, it becomes imperative to reinforce the sense of security among individuals and groups,” Chanegriha stated firmly. “A solid national culture of information must be instilled—one that encourages citizens to verify facts rigorously before accepting or disseminating any information, by referring to credible sources and resisting sensationalist and misleading content.”
Warning against the dangers posed by fake news and digital manipulation, the Army Chief of Staff underscored the duty of every devoted Algerian to actively resist hostile campaigns aiming to tarnish Algeria’s image and destabilize its institutions.
“Developing critical thinking is an essential defense mechanism against propaganda, which seeks to sow doubt and distrust between the citizen and the State,” he stressed. “It is thus a patriotic duty to remain conscious, vigilant, and deeply committed to thwarting the insidious plans that target Algeria’s security, stability, and national unity.”
Following his address, General Chanegriha engaged directly with personnel, listening attentively to their interventions and concerns. He commended their resolve to continue fulfilling their mission of safeguarding Algeria’s borders and defending the national territory against any potential threats or scourges.
As part of his visit, General Chanegriha inaugurated a newly constructed regional complex, designed to provide enhanced service and accommodation facilities. He received comprehensive briefings from project managers and inspected the quality of the completed infrastructures. Praising the teams involved for delivering the projects within the prescribed deadlines, he emphasized the importance of maintaining these facilities through professional and rigorous management to ensure sustained service excellence.
