ALGIERS– In a significant diplomatic development, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, engaged in a productive telephone conversation with the British Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Lord Tariq Ahmad. This high-level exchange of views reaffirmed the commitment of Algeria and the United Kingdom to enhancing their bilateral cooperation and coordination, as detailed in a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The conversation, which took place on Tuesday, centered on a range of crucial topics that hold substantial importance for both nations. Foremost among these discussions was the keen anticipation of Algeria’s forthcoming accession to the United Nations Security Council as a non-permanent member, set to commence next year. This imminent development highlights the increasing international prominence of Algeria and opens doors for deeper collaboration with its global partners.
The press release issued by the ministry also shed light on the preparations for the upcoming session of the Algerian-British strategic dialogue, scheduled for November in London. Such dialogues play a pivotal role in nurturing strong and effective diplomatic ties between the two nations, enabling them to address global challenges collectively and seek mutually beneficial solutions.
During their conversation, Minister Attaf and Lord Tariq Ahmad engaged in a comprehensive exchange of views and analyses regarding the ongoing crisis in Niger. Of particular importance was the Resolution Initiative proposed by Algeria’s President, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, which seeks to find sustainable solutions to the challenges facing the nation. Both ministers displayed a deep commitment to promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
Additionally, the discussion extended to the complex situation in Mali, where the implementation of the Peace and Reconciliation Agreement is facing considerable hurdles. This agreement, a product of the Algiers process, is pivotal in bringing lasting peace to Mali and the wider Sahel region. Minister Attaf and Lord Tariq Ahmad affirmed their shared concern and commitment to supporting the peace process in Mali and exploring ways to overcome the challenges that have arisen.
