Attaf Hosts High-Level American Diplomatic Delegation in New York During UN General Assembly

New York- The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, played host to a significant American diplomatic delegation in New York during his participation in the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Leading the U.S. delegation was Under-Secretary of State Ms. Victoria Nuland. This meeting, a testament to the growing international cooperation, highlighted the critical issues on the UN agenda and key regional challenges.
In an official press release issued by the ministry, it was disclosed that the American delegation comprised distinguished members, including Ms. Barbara Leaf, Under Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs; Ms. Michele Sison, Assistant Secretary of State for International Organizations; and Ms. Catherine Phee, Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs. Their presence underscored the importance both nations place on fostering strong diplomatic ties.
The primary focus of the discussions revolved around the various items on the agenda of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly. A prominent subject of deliberation was the evolving crisis in Niger, with both parties examining the prospects of reinforcing diplomatic efforts in light of the “peaceful settlement initiative” proposed by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. This initiative signifies the commitment of Algeria to regional stability and conflict resolution.
Moreover, the talks also addressed the latest developments in the crisis in Mali, emphasizing the urgent need to intensify efforts to restore peace and allow the Malian parties to implement the peace and reconciliation agreement established during the Algiers process. Algeria and the United States shared a common interest in ensuring a stable and peaceful Mali.
In addition to these crucial discussions, Mr. Attaf engaged in bilateral talks with Ms. Barbara Leaf, the Undersecretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, concerning the evolving crisis in Libya. Both sides reaffirmed their unwavering support for the United Nations envoy, Mr. Abdoulay Bathily, and his tireless efforts to bring peace and stability to the troubled region.
