Ankara– Ahmed Attaf, Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, embarked on a working visit to Ankara, where he was warmly received by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The meeting, characterized by a spirit of cooperation and friendship, underscored the substantial progress achieved in Algerian-Turkish relations across various domains. Additionally, the discussions revolved around the pivotal role both nations play in addressing the evolving dynamics of the Sahelo-Saharan region, which has increasingly become a focus of shared concern for Algeria, Turkey, and the international community at large.
During the encounter, both parties extolled the ongoing qualitative development of Algerian-Turkish relations, emphasizing the commitment of their respective leaders to enhance these accomplishments further. A press release issued by the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, “The will of the leaders of the two countries to value the achievements made and to promote them in the context of the next bilateral deadlines, in particular the 2nd session of the high-level cooperation council, which will be held on the occasion of the visit of the Turkish president in Algiers, at the invitation of Mr. Tebboune,” signifying the forthcoming strengthening of ties.
With the Sahelo-Saharan region experiencing a surge in instability and conflict, Attaf and Erdogan delved into the latest developments in this volatile area of shared interest. Attaf took the opportunity to inform Erdogan about the proactive steps undertaken by President Tebboune to alleviate tensions and contribute significantly to resolving the crisis stemming from the unconstitutional change of government in Niger. Tebboune’s efforts also focus on fostering and cementing a development-oriented approach to tackle the myriad challenges confronting the nations and peoples of this region, which currently witnesses a distressing proliferation of tensions and conflicts.
Towards the conclusion of their meeting, President Erdogan conveyed his sincere greetings to President Tebboune and expressed his eagerness to meet with him in the near future. The aim is to sustain and fortify Algerian-Turkish relations within an environment characterized by trust, ambition, and a shared vision for the future, as highlighted in the press release.
In an era marked by regional and global challenges, Algeria and Turkey have reaffirmed their commitment to nurturing a strong partnership, bolstering diplomatic ties, and cooperating to address the pressing issues in the Sahelo-Saharan region. As these two nations continue their journey of collaboration, their joint efforts hold the promise of contributing to stability, development, and peace in an increasingly complex world.
