ALGIERS– Ahmed Attaf took office, Saturday in Algiers, as Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, replacing Ramtane Lamamra, following the partial cabinet reshuffle conducted, Thursday, by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
In a statement to the press following the handover ceremony which took place at the ministry’s headquarters, Mr. Attaf expressed his gratitude to the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for the confidence placed in him, appointing him to this position, with a view to contributing to promoting “the country’s foreign policy and enabling it to achieve new qualitative progress, commensurate with Algeria’s place, its values, its weight and its legitimate aspirations”.
Indicating having met, two days ago, the President of the Republic who gave him guidelines in order to “raise foreign policy to high levels of efficiency and influence”, Mr. Attaf affirmed that “the national interest is the compass that guides the President of the Republic in analysis, evaluation, extrapolation and forecasting”.

The current period is sensitive at all levels, nationally, regionally and internationally, he said.
“At the national level, the country is experiencing major changes which foreign policy must be in tune with and adapt to all their requirements, just as at the regional level.”
A minute of silence was observed, on this occasion, in tribute to the Chouhada of Algeria, including those of Algerian diplomacy, on the eve of the 61st anniversary of Victory Day, celebrated on March 19 of each year.
