Attempt to Incite Unrest: “El Makhzen” Behind Efforts to Stir Discord Among Algerian Football Fans as Belmadi Chapter Closed
ALGIERS- The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has officially closed the chapter on Algerian national team coach Djamel Belmadi after announcing the unilateral termination of his contract last Tuesday, following the disappointment of the “Desert Foxes” in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, which unfolded in Ivory Coast.
While the FAF, under the leadership of Walid Sadi, initiated negotiations with coach Djamel Belmadi to terminate the contract by mutual consent, citing the failure of the coaching staff and the necessity for their departure, the former coach of Qatar’s Al-Duhail surprised everyone by retracting his decision to leave. He even refused to respond to the FAF’s attempts to contact him for four full days before departing for Qatar without showing any interest in the Algerian Football Federation.
In the wake of the FAF’s official announcement regarding the dismissal of the coaching staff, some voices emerged to sow discord among Algerian football fans by agitating the streets against any attempts to terminate Belmadi’s contract. These actions were seemingly aimed at fueling unrest in the sporting community, orchestrated by the “El Makhzen” regime, which sought to divert attention from the issues facing the Moroccan people across all fronts—be it economic, political, or social—by making Algeria its scapegoat.
According to sources from “Dzair Tube,” the “El Makhzen” regime utilized social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok to incite Algerian football fans, capitalizing on their strong attachment to the national coach, who led the “Desert Foxes” to victory in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after a 29-year hiatus.
Despite the attempts by the Moroccan regime, the Algerian people have recognized its malicious scheme aimed at consolidating its power through electronic propaganda. They have shown little interest in the rumors circulating and are awaiting the outcome of negotiations initiated by the FAF with several foreign coaches to determine Belmadi’s successor.
It is worth noting that FAF President Walid Sadi has decided to form a special committee to select the new coach for the “Desert Foxes” according to criteria set by the federal bureau. Several names have been proposed for the position, including Bosnian Ivaylo Petev, Halilhodzic, Frenchman Hervé Renard, Portuguese Carlos Queiroz, and compatriot Biscero.
