ALGIERS- In an unexpected diplomatic fallout between Algiers and Bamako, recent revelations suggest the discreet involvement of the dangerous Tel Aviv-Rabat alliance. La Patrie News, quoting Algerian sources, point to a visit by Mali’s Foreign Minister, Abdoulay Diop, to Morocco, where he engaged in secret negotiations with Zionist envoys, backed by substantial funding from Abu Dhabi.
Financed generously with a staggering $50 million from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), this clandestine deal is earmarked for the purchase of dozens of Turkish drones for the Malian Armed Forces (FAMA). Additionally, funds are allocated to alleviate the severe socio-economic crisis faced by Mali. However, these financial injections come with a double-edged sword: Mali is expected to support the Moroccan autonomy plan for Western Sahara and turn a blind eye to the Zionists’ atrocities in Gaza.
As Mali seemingly distances itself from Algerian support, opting for Zionist and Moroccan guidance, questions arise about the prudence of this strategic shift. The Malian junta, led by Colonel Assimi Goita, appears to have overlooked the 1995 Algiers Peace Agreement. Recent military actions in northern Mali suggest potential racist and Islamophobic massacres, indicating a departure from Algeria’s approach of fostering peaceful and constructive dialogue without interference in Mali’s internal affairs.
The Tel Aviv-Rabat influence, marked by the failed attempt to integrate the criminal entity into the African Union, seems to be adapting with this new project offered by Morocco to Sahelian countries, providing access to the Atlantic in exchange for de facto recognition of the disputed claim over Western Sahara. Mali risks entangling itself in alliances that may prove costly and challenging to disentangle in the future.
This is not the first instance of the Tel Aviv-Rabat duo attempting to influence African nations. Previously, they sought to “trap” Libya through a secret meeting between its Foreign Minister, Najla El Mangouche, and Zionist emissaries. While Mangouche faced suspension by Libya’s Prime Minister Abdelhamid Dbeybah, concerns persist about ongoing attempts to influence regional dynamics.
Algeria remains a crucial element for peace and stability in the Sahel and the Arab Maghreb. The conspiracies orchestrated by the Moroccan-Israeli alliance to destabilize the region are likely to face failure, as long as the conduct of states in this sensitive region adheres to international law and the principles outlined in the United Nations Charter.
